According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), special education is "Specially designed instruction, at no cost to parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability."
In order to fully include special education students in the educational process and to reduce barriers to learning, our students work closely with educators to optimize their potential for lifelong learning.
That includes:
-
small group and one-on-one instruction
- academic support and assistance to provide accommodations where needed to optimize learning
- provide guidance and support needed to move from school to post secondary options
-
provide social and emotional support when barriers to learning occur
- offer transition services and functional life skills training, emphasized junior and senior year, to develop a post-secondary plan
